Types and Characteristics of Pigs


Pigs is a kind of ungulate animals were billed long and flat nosed animals and is originally from Eurasia. Sometimes also referred to as khinzir [1] (Arabic). Pigs are omnivores, meaning they eat both meat and plants. In addition, pork is one of the most intelligent mammals, and reported more intelligent and easier to maintain compared to dogs and cats.

In some confidence Abrahamic religions, pigs should not to be touched (unclean) and is considered haram to eat. Examples are as written in the holy book of Islam Koran. Pigs are also forbidden to be consumed in Judaism and Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Christian religion.

Pig has actually bred and consumed for thousands of years by the Europeans and Asians mostly. Pigs are common foods in the archipelago before the arrival of Islam from the Middle East. Some tribes in Indonesia who are still running the original tradition in addition to Chinese-Indonesian tribe still consume pork as everyday foods, such as tribal Bali, Toraja, Papua, Batak, Manado, etc. In the Java community, pigs are called boars and also a common farm animals before the spread of Islam which forbids pork in the archipelago.

Local pig

Is a kind of pig that has been raised by the community for generations, possibly derived from a wild pig crossed with other pigs. Here are some types of local pigs and their characteristics

Type Pigs originating from abroad
